President’s Jottings

I am writing this just 2 weeks after the conclusion of our 8th Annual Scientific Meeting and Radiology 2000. Thanks to the many who worked so hard, especially the members of the Organising Committee and our Secretariat, the meeting and the activities had been a great success. The registration has been record high (about 520), the number much exceeding our initial estimation. Such an excellent turnout, of course, was most motivating to the organizers and our sponsors. However, it also resulted in the under provision of some of the conference items like conference bags and inserts from the sponsors. This oversight had caused on the first day, some confusion for the Day Registrants and I must take this opportunity to convey our apologies to them.

The scientific program, no doubt, was highly commended. Apart from the excellent lectures delivered by the renowned invited speakers and the very stimulating learning exercise of the film quiz sessions, we had proffered paper sessions and scientific exhibits of high standard with well structured design. In fact, we are witnessing the ever improving quality and standard of our proffered papers and posters being presented in our annual scientific meetings and published in our journal. These represent the fruitful outcome of years of hard work from both the supervisors/departments and many radiologists, despite a lot of constraints deterring our academic and scientific pursuits.  To cultivate interest, nurture and support for high standard scientific projects among the profession, no doubt, is one of the main goals of our College when she was constituted. All of us I am sure are much impressed by this good output in such a short time. My congratulations again to our dedicated colleagues for their achievements.

The next few weeks will be election time, both for the Legislative Council, the Academy and our College Council. As an Academy College, we of course hope all changes will be for the betterment of our practice and professional development for good quality health care.  And I am sure our members would participate in their different capacities and cast their respective judicious choices.
