Hong Kong Society of Diagnostic Radiologists - Young Researcher’s Scholarship - Policies and Procedures

 

Purpose

The Hong Kong Society of Diagnostic Radiologists, Young Researcher’s Scholarship is designed to support research opportunities for young clinicians in the field of diagnostic radiology in Hong Kong.  The scholarship is not intended to supplement major funding already secured.

 

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to:

1.

Those possessing F.H.K.C.R. (Clinical Radiology)/equivalent recognised by the Hong Kong College of Radiologists or those who are nearing the end of their training in radiology and/or have completed prerequisite training to sit for final examination of fellow for Hong Kong College of Radiologists, and

2.

Registered medical practitioner in Medical Council of Hong Kong, holding valid annual practising certificate, and

3.

Principal investigator to the research project is under the age of 40, and

4.

The scholarship is intended for research to be conducted only in Hong Kong.

 

Nature of Research Projects

Any area of research related to diagnostic radiology is eligible for Young Researcher’s Scholarship, including:

1.                   Basic and clinical research in the field of diagnostic radiology.

2.                   Projects in which innovative techniques, new methods or special equipment leading to better patient care are developed.

3.                   Aspects of health care planning and delivery, including outcome evaluation studies.

Awards is not for research studies in which imaging procedures or isotopes are used only as research tools in areas outside the radiological sciences.  The scholarship is not intended to support those researches whose primary aim is to obtain practical experience in clinical radiology.

 

Method of Application

Application forms must be completed and submitted to the secretary of Hong Kong Society of Diagnostic Radiologists, Trust Fund Working Group.

Applications must have the consent of the head of the department of radiology in which the principal investigator is working.

The institution where the applicant will work must agree to provide the space, facilities, and equipment needed for the research.

For research involving human subjects, vertebral animals, ionising radiation or radioactive isotopes, prior approval from the Ethics Committee, Laboratory Animal Use Committee, Radiation Safety Committee/equivalent need to be sought.

 

Selection Criteria

Each application will be reviewed by a panel of radiologists/scientists knowledgeable about the research topic for scientific merit and appropriateness for funding.

Final decisions will be subject to the approval of the Trust Fund Working Group of the Hong Kong Society of Diagnostic Radiologists.

Applicants will be notified in writing of the disposition of the applications.
