Asian-Oceanian Seminars on Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology (ASDIR) 2000 – Hi-Tech and Trauma Radiology

ASDIR, an official educational program of the AOSR, is targeted at young radiologists in the Asia-Oceania region. By virtue of the support from Bracco International, registration fees are kept to the minimum, and grants are provided for young radiologists from outside the host countries to attend the seminar.

“ASDIR 2000 Hi-Tech and Trauma Radiology” was organized by the Hong Kong College of Radiologists, and held in Hong Kong on 1st and 2nd April, 2000 at the Hospital Authority Building. There was an attendance of over 250 registrants, with 90 overseas registrants coming from 19 countries.

The Opening Ceremony was held at the Lecture Theatre of the HA building. The officiating guest was Dr. William Ho, the Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority.

The two-day program encompassed a broad range of topics in Hi-Tech Radiology (e.g. Fast MRI in fetus, 3D CT and MR spectroscopy in Head & Neck Imaging) and Trauma Radiology (e.g. Pediatric trauma, Trauma Audit). An invited lecture on the surgeon’s perspective of spinal injury was particularly interesting; the importance of clinico-radiological correlation cannot be overemphasized.

The Social Evening was held at the Ballroom of Sheraton Hotel and Towers after the first day’s academic activities. There was some Chinese Cultural Entertainment, e.g. Chinese brush writing on fans, fortune telling by birds, and dragon beard candy making. There was karaoke as well as live music. Everybody relaxed and had a lot of fun.

The Film Quiz was attempted by over 20 participants. There were three winners who received their prizes during the Closing Ceremony on 2nd April, 2000.

The ASDIR 2000 has provided an excellent opportunity for local and overseas professionals in the radiological field to get together, share our knowledge and experience, and to make new friends.
